CLAUDIA GORDON: BARRIERS TO INCLUSION

I edited this multi-cam feature is part of the Ford Foundation’s series on Disability Rights and Inclusion. This particular video features Claudia Gordon, the first Deaf African American lawyer to graduate law school and pursue a career devoted to helping individuals with disabilities.  Combining my skills as a video editor and my knowledge of American Sign Language, I matched the interpreted voiceover with her ASL and added a full text layer to match her speech, ensuring the piece highlighted Ms. Gordon’s language while making the piece fully accessible.

I edited this multi-cam feature as part of the Public Interest Technology series for the Ford Foundation, highlighting the way that technology opens new avenues and shows us new possibilities, but at the same time deepens existing inequalities. This series promotes the harnessing of technology to serve justice and the public interest. This particular edit explores flawed algorithms in facial recognition technology.

For this piece, I wrote audio descriptions, had them professionally voiced, and edited them directly into the video in order to make this video fully accessible.
